In a flurry of activity, the families living in the ancient Citadel of Erbil, in northern Iraq, rush to connect their small water pumps and hoses to the city water pipe. The water pipe, which runs between their homes, pours water out of a series of holes for about 30 minutes at unpredictable hours of the morning or afternoon. The water pumps send water to storage tanks in each home. Residents complain that the dirty water makes their children sick and that the water is not enough for their daily needs, sometimes leaving them with no shower for two days. |
