A pair of Iraqi women proudly show their ink-stained fingers after casting their ballot at the Najaf School for Women, which was acting as a neighborhood voting station for Iraq’s historic democratic election. Voters were searched several times by tight security, had their identification verified, received their ballot, voted, stuck their index finger in ink, cast their ballot and then left the voting building. The process went smoothly after the first few voters.
