The U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, meets with Admed al-Safi, an Ayatollah Sistani spokesman from the holy city of Karbala, about constitutional issues at the convention center in Baghdad’s Green Zone. The group discussed the wording that should be used in the new constitution concerning Islamic law as well as the roll of Federalism and the placement of military units from different regions. A concern was raised that, for example, Kurdish military units should not be placed in Shiia areas. |
