Marine Lance Corporal Matthew Schilling reacts as he listens to an evaluation of his hearing loss at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Schilling arrived from Iraq with damaged eardrums, an amputated right leg and a shrapnel damaged left hand. Immediately after arriving at the hospital Schilling was taken for x-rays, taken to the operating room for wound cleaning, given phone cards to call home and had his hearing evaluated. Doctors told Schilling that the damage to his hearing was not as bad as expected and that partial hearing recovery was likely.
