A young girl carries a jug of water on her head as they takes it to her home on the steep mountain slopes in the center of Kabul from a public well. The homes are built on former mine fields that have been cleared by the UN since the fall of the Taliban in 2001. The communities have no sewage system so the sewage flows down the mountain contaminating the well, which the residences then use for cooking and washing. |
